# How to connect Bing Webmaster Tools

> Paste a Bing Webmaster Tools API key on the Connectors page under Settings so Mole can read your Bing queries, pages, traffic, keyword volume and crawl facts.

Connect Bing Webmaster Tools once per account on the Connectors page under Settings (`settings/features`):
copy your API key from Bing Webmaster Tools (Settings → API Access → API Key), paste it into the **Bing
Webmaster Tools** card, then pick your verified site. After that, Mole can answer Bing questions the same
way it answers Google Search Console ones — top Bing queries and pages, week-over-week movement, daily Bing
traffic, Bing search volume for any keyword, and when Bing last crawled a page.

## Steps

1. In [Bing Webmaster Tools](https://www.bing.com/webmasters/), make sure your site is added and verified. If it's already verified in Google Search Console, **Import from Google Search Console** on the My Sites page does it in one step.
2. In Bing Webmaster Tools, open **Settings → API Access → API Key** and copy the key (generate one if there isn't one yet).
3. In Synscribe, go to the Connectors page under Settings (`settings/features`) and find the **Bing Webmaster Tools** card in the Search group.
4. Paste the key and click **Connect**. The key is checked with Bing before it's saved; a mistyped or regenerated key is rejected with a message, nothing is stored.
5. Under **Site**, pick your site. Sites on your organization's domain (Settings → Organisation URL) are listed first, and if exactly one matches it's picked for you; other sites the key reaches are marked *(other domain)*. Replacing the key keeps your pick as long as the new key still reaches it.
6. Ask Mole a Bing question to confirm data is flowing, for example:

   > What were our top Bing search queries over the last month, and how did they move week over week?

> One key reaches every site its Bing Webmaster Tools user has verified, so only paste a key whose
> account belongs to this client. If you regenerate the key in Bing, paste the new one with **Replace
> key** — the card warns when the saved key stops working.

## What to ask Mole

* "How are we doing on Bing compared with Google this month?" — Mole pulls both and lines them up.
* "Is our Bing traffic growing?" — daily Bing clicks and impressions with a previous-period comparison.
* "How much is `<keyword>` searched on Bing?" — Bing-wide search volume (exact and broad), optionally with related keywords.
* "Has Bing crawled `<url>` yet?" — when Bing discovered and last crawled the page, and the HTTP status it saw.

> Bing reports query and page stats **per week**, so Mole answers those in whole weeks and says which
> weeks it used. Bing's crawl facts say when a page was crawled, not whether it's indexed — Mole won't
> claim "indexed on Bing" from them.

> 🎬 **Video planned:** find the API key in Bing Webmaster Tools, paste it on the Connectors page, pick
> the site, ask Mole a Bing question. See the shot-list.
